Not quite as collapsible as the Japanese ones but crafted in the same fashion.  with or with out bees wax they make a light that is romantic and aromatic.   Some times I am able to collect real wasp nests and unwrap them ( a task best dome in winter)and recreate a hollow form using their papers.  Wasps are the best papermakers , their paper an archive of their habait</image:caption>

She worked for Woodruff Arts Center / Young Audiences of Atlanta for 15 years while traveling the east coast presenting her handmade paper artworks at hundreds of outdoor art festivals.  She holds many awards for this body of work. She received Georgia Art Educators Association, Artist Of The Year 2006.    Relocating to Pittsburgh in 2011, she infiltrated the K-12 Artist-in-Residence programs through Pittsburgh Filmmakers/Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, and Gateway to the Arts.  DeMent’s residencies bring hands-on STEAM-centered programming with hand papermaking as a means to an end.  She leads professional development courses through Savanna Collage of Art, IUP and the Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse, where she develops environmental art related programs and outreach.  She also works with adult and special populations through Society of Contemporary Craft, and Creative Citizen Studio.  In her spare time she is a gardener and bee keeper      </image:caption>

The selected work was showcased at the Pittsburgh Steel Towers T station 2019 - 2020. I was proud to co-curate this exhibition with Ann Rosenthal. This timely exhibition was featured in IAMPA, American Craft Magazine, and City Paper.</image:caption>
